ARCHIVE DIVING

Working on new release of historical products designed by le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand was, from the beginning, rather than a task, a great pleasure. It is difficult to describe the value and importance of those products, projects, ideas that these two Masters created or just imagined during their life. Quality of these ideas is such that, sometimes, a section, a sketch on a notebook are enough to bring back from the paper products that are immediately mature and correct, as for the Projecteur, a spot hidden under a concrete shell, drawn in side view, without any available prototype but extraordinarily functional and complete, once “recovered”. Only by diving completely in the archives, we understood the real nature of these projects; searching among technical tables, drawings, notebooks and notes, among pictures of architecture, friends and travels, we discovered a world of lights coming out from the edges of a picture, transformed and colored according to the place, part of an unconscious made of natural, mechanical and metaphysical shapes. This is the way in which this exhibition was born, surely it’s not exhaustive but hopefully it is representative of a magnificent way of designing lightings: objects made to serve us, following our gestures, changing the spaces we live in, taking us through time.
